New year, same you!
As we embark on this new chapter this is a gentle reminder – New Year is more than just a calendar shift; it's an invitation to cherish the beautiful souls we've become. Yet all too often, we find ourselves in a self depreciating tango with the incredible beings we are in the present (who, by the way, are pretty damn awesome).
Happy holidays!
Sending you warm and whimsical holiday vibes from the sandy wonders of Oaxaca, where the ocean shares its juiciest secrets, and the waves are the percussionists in nature's rock band. I'm cozily holed up in a beach shack, its charm and view giving even the swankiest Mexican resorts a run for their pesos. Imagine me, surrounded by the peculiarities of simplicity—a mosquito net that is merely a witness to nightly massacres and rainwater showers. For me, this holiday season is a humbling reminder of the real gifts in life.
Sunset salutations.
So, my dear yogis, as we bid farewell to this enchanting season and brace ourselves for the hush of winter, know that the spirit of Yoga in Central Park lives on. It resides in the space between breaths, in the memories of our laughter, and in the warmth of our intentions. And when the time is right, we shall come together once again, under the open sky, ready to embrace the endless possibilities that await us.
AHIMSA.
Ahimsa traditionally encourages nonviolence toward others, but I encourage you to also offer this compassion to yourself. When you feel the weight of stress bearing down, take a moment to step back and reconnect with your breath. It's essential for your well-being, and the positive energy radiates outward, benefiting everyone around you by preventing your nervous system from going into overdrive. In times of intense conflict and sorrow, let your heart be your guide. Remember, ahimsa begins with self-care. 💚
Embracing solitude: a journey of self commitment.
I will continue showing up at the park, knowing that on most days, eager yogis will join. But even on those rare occasions when no one appears, I will remain steadfast – not just for others but, more importantly, for myself. I understand now that the true essence of yoga lies in personal dedication, valuing our own growth, and embracing the moments when solitude becomes our greatest teacher.
Carpe diem.
Let's take a moment to shift our perspective, to veer away from the relentless pursuit of success and productivity that society often imposes upon us. I'm not here to chant the "rise and grind" mantra or channel the spirit of Rocky Balboa; instead, let's pause and reflect on the incredible opportunities that lie ahead.
Presence.
This present moment is a gift – a blank canvas upon which you can paint the life you truly desire. It's here that you have the power to create change, make meaningful connections, and cultivate joy, love, grace, and compassion. Embrace the now, for it is the only moment where your actions truly matter.
You say you can’t meditate…
As yoga practitioners, we strive to remain connected to ourselves and the world around us. By acknowledging and appreciating even the smallest details, we enhance our connection to the present moment and bring a deeper sense of fulfillment into our lives.
Sisterhood yoga.
Unlock the profound essence of sisterhood by embodying the very qualities we seek in our closest companions. As we delve into the world of yoga, a realm where 90% of practitioners are powerful women, let's unite and weave our energies together in a harmonious symphony.
You say you can’t meditate…
Next time you find yourself in Central Park, let its natural beauty inspire you to dive deeper into your practice. Allow yourself to be captivated by the sensations within your body, the aromas in the air, and the buzzing energy in your fingertips. Embrace the symphony of the present moment, and let your yoga practice guide you to a place of inner peace and harmony.
Words are prayers.
Yoga provides a sanctuary where you can reframe how you see yourself in the world. It allows you to connect with your breath, quieten the chatter in your mind, and become aware of your thoughts and self-talk. By consciously choosing positive words and affirmations during your practice, you begin to shape a more loving and compassionate dialogue with yourself.
Ganesha and Gajamukha.
Gajamukha realized that contentment and joy are not dependent on outer appearances or circumstances. Rather, they sprout from the fertile soil of acceptance and self-love.
YOU are a blessing and I’m so happy you’re here.
As I step into Central Park today for my yoga practice, I will breathe in this mantra, reminding myself and those around me that we are all perfectly imperfect, doing our best. And with that thought in mind, I will envision a world where compassion, love, and grace reign supreme.
Find your spark.
Nurture your spark, for it has the potential to light up the world.
Let it guide you to dance, to explore, and to embrace the abundant wonders that await.
And remember, if you allow your spark to shine, you may just ignite others.
